PLAY SYNOPSIS
Married, but separated couple, Kendra Ellis-Connor and Scott Connor are sitting at a police station on a hot summer night in Miami, Florida. The couple is awaiting the return of their missing son, Jamal, who is detained by the police for a traffic stop near the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are forced to work with rookie cop, Officer Larkin, and tough-skinned police official, Lieutenant Stokes. While waiting for their son at the station, both Kendra and Scott are met at odds with each other. When facing the fact that their son is different from everyone else and also pointing out their racial biases and differences. With both individuals reflecting how this has affected their son's upbringing, and how it has lead and affected him during the social movement of Black Lives Matter and police brutality during the pandemic.
MOODBOARD & CONCEPT
The inspiration for the costumes, was based off of modern-day clothing, within high-class communities and influential pop culture figures. As well as, thorough research of modern-day police dress codes and materials needed to show status and power. Thus, representing the character's social and economic status. As well, as their occupation. While also incorporating the themes and morals of the play, by reflecting it through their wardrobe.
